SEAMEN'S DISPUTE.
PROBABILITY OF SETTLEMENT. The conference of representatives of the Seamen's Union and of shipowners was continued on Saturday. The rule that no information should bo given to tho press was observed rigidly, and nothing is known .is to what actually occurred, It is understood, however, that somo procms was made, and that there is now more than a possibilitv that an agreement will bo arrived at. The conference spent tho early part of the day discussing tho wanes demands, but the two sides did not quite moot each other. In the afternoon the owners and the union representatives conferred senaratcly, aud probably they will confer a'gain to-day. They meet again in conferonco at 12 noon. It was recognised that wages would \k one of the greatest difficulties, for the demands aro for something much belter than has ever been paid to forecastle men in any trade in the world. Generally the monthly rates asked for are 10s. higher than those provided for in tho Commonwealth award.
