(By Telegraph-Press Association.) Christchurch, November 8. ine Canterbury A. and. I'. Association's . letropolitan Show at Aldington onened to-day in favourable weather. As is the general rule the day was devoted principally to preparatory work, but, nevertheless, there was a fairly large attendance. Ine displays in tents were quite .is numerous as at previous shows, and quite as varied. Only a few of the stockarrived on the grounds to-day, but the innications are that, in. respect to stock, the & how will be quite equal to its precursors. Hit. entries this year are slightly below- those of last year, this being dn'e largely to tho unfavourable season prejudicing the sheep classes. Details of the entries for 1911 and 1910 aro given below, those for tho present year being • stated first in each case— Farmers' judging competitions, 3!), 3S: sheep, 1004. 1052; cattle, 178, 215: horses 501 591; pigs, 91, 75; dogs, 10, 19 ; . daiirV produce, etc., 185, 161; totals, 2017. 2154 -to-day the implements and machinery were Judged, and to-morrow several compctitious_ will be decided and the stock will be judged.
