"I COMPLIMENT HIM." "You say you are an engineer," said Mr. "Willis to a witness at tho Magistrate's Court. ''Yes," replied the witness. Are you lint working as a fitter in tbo tramways?—" Yes." Why is that?—" Well, I am taking what is going." Were your contracts in England satisfactory r—"Yes." Why did you leavo England?—" Simply because J, liko other people, cruno here thinking that thero was something better." Dr. M'Arthur, S.M.: What is the uso of this? Mr. Willis: This man, I submit, sir, is a labourer. His Worship: Well, I think the man is to be complimented if he is an engineer and takes "a fitting job. instead of going about v;ith his hands in his pockets. The witness produced a certificate, which bis Worship examined, and then remarked: "If a man is an engineer and comes out here, and takes a job as a fitter, instead of banging about with bis hands in his pockefs, 1 compliment him."
