The Egmont Asricultural and Paftoral Association's Spring Show was opened today, in fine weather, and the pretty little. Jlnwera grounds really throbbed" with lifo and bustle, as was to be expected from an important centre in one of tho foremost dairying district* of tho Dominion. The dairy cattle shown were of high quality, and entries were large. Jennys' probably formed the strongest clns*, and tho number of exhibitors in this class plainly indicated the popularity of the .breed. An unnamed bull by ' Mr. G. llarkness was given the champion ticket, and tho champion cow wns entered by ..Mrs. A. A. Ward. Holsteins wero another strongly represented class. The breeders who came, forward—lnc'ui::;c Messrs. Newton King and W. I. Lovelock—wero prominent at last week's .Palmerston show. Mr. King's King Fayne Logos II was placed champion, but Mr Lovelock scored with the champion cow. There were a good number of Shorthorns, both championships goin; to Mr. i G. A. Turner, of Elthaiu, whose, opponents included Mr K. li. Hamilton and the Mooro, Hunter Estate. Herefords are confined to those from Mr. G. F. Moore's herd, and this breeder gained both champion awards. Mr. F. Mills, who had Messrs. Brown Brcs.' 1". W. Wilkie's, and A. C. .Tohnstone's Ayrshire stock to compete against, won both champion prizes. Tho siiccp classes were net very strong numerically, but quality was excellent. Mr. W. 11. Wybourne, of Whenunkura'-,* mouopolisecl practically every class in" Lincoln*, Mr. S. E. Lancaster, of Falmprston North, doing the same with English Loicestcrs. In tho Romney Marsh section reaiiy tho only competitors wero Jlcssrs. ,T. D. Hughes, H. P. Best, and D. .T. Willis. Southdov.'ns were little belter olf, the Moore, Hunter Estate, Ellis Bros., and ■Tas. Knight fillin,!» every class. Border Leicesters and Shropshire Downs were in small supply. The display of pigs was about the same as last year, but there was litllo or no competition.' ' Outside the cattle tho feature of tho show was horses.
