MAGISTRATE'S COURT.
(Before Mr. W. G. Eiddell, S.M.) DAMAGED HEAD. THE STRIKER SENT TO PRISON. At the Magistrate's Court yesterdav Augustus 1-lui was charged with having intentionally done bodily harm to Patrick Joseph M'Kay. Tho charge was at forwards reduced to one of common Flux pleaded not guilty. M hay appeared in Court with his n , ba ? d! !-e« 1 - The injuries, it was alleged, had been received in a house in Penrose Avenue. The evidence given by witnesses conflicted, but one (Floyd) stated positively that Flux had struck i£ ny, -,,? ntl , J hla caused tho injuries. -tlis Worship considered that tho evidence was against Flux, and sentenced him to sis weeks' imprisonment. THOSE EIGHT WATERSIDERS. Alfred Nelson, Donald M'Pherson, Anton Olsen, John Hiudle, William Young, ired. Lindsay Backhouse, James Wright, a-nd Harry Douglas were before the Court again, charged with having, on October 27, stolen from the steamer Moana about 221b. of Havelcck tobacco, valued at X 6 Is., tho property of the Union Steam Ship Co.,- L.td. A remand till to-day was made to enable tho police to call as a witness a person who was aboard tho iloana, which returned to Wellington yesterday. Mr. A. H. Hindniarsh, who represented some of the defendants, said that 6everal of the men had been unable to obtain bail, as tho amount fixed was too high. Thereupon, his Worship reduced the amount of bail for Hindle, Backhouse, and M'Pherson to ,£2O. REMANDED. Frederick Williams was remanded till to-morrow, when he is to appear for sentence on a charge of having stolen a knife, valued at Is. 6d.
