THE FISHING SEASON.

SPORT AT ROTORUA AND TATJPO. Tho general verdict of anglers this season is that 'the trout in the lakes and streams about Rotorua are in much better condition than they have been for two or three seasons past, and one has but to look at them to be convinced that the decision is a just one (says a Rotorua paper). Tliero is a silvery appearance about t'he fish that spells "health," ivliile the condition of the trout clearly indicates that a great change has taken place. True, there are few 25-pounders, at any rate, nono of that weight or anything approaching it have been landed, but fish ranging from 31b. to Gib. are numerous. That the trout are plentiful is illustrated by the excellent basketfuls t'hat aro beinfj obtained by all and sundry, and also by tho numerous parcels that are already being sent away by the express cach morning. Some fino specimens have been token from Lake Rotokakahi, and on Thursday last some beautiful fish were brought by tho R.M. Coaching Company's coach from Taupo where many fino "takes" wero landed from tho lake there. These fish were also in fine drder, and tho best of sport awaits visiting anglers in any of tho lakes or streams in the Rotorua Acclimatisation district. Visitors from foreign lands aro already beginning to arrive, and those who have been out on Lake Rotorua speak well of tho sport they have had. If the "takes" of the past few days continue, it may safely be said that not less than 100 tons of trout will be taken from the lakes and streams this season. A visitor from Taupo on Thursday last calculated that on tho previous dav"(juite •100 fish were taken from Lako Taupo; theso trout would average at tho very least 41b., and this as the result of a few rods only on the opening day of the season. Tho fishing season opened at To Aroha last TTDck in tho Waihou and adjaccnt waters. There were not many angjors, but t'wo To Aroha sportsmen, prominent members of the local Rod and Gun Club landed fish aggregating 401b. on the opening day.
