LOG-HAULER'S' DEATH. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) Taihape, November 7. Late yesterday afternoon John Jl'Lees, agcxl 19' years, a single man, was killed while working in tbe bush. Ho was log-hauling for Bennett and Anderson's mill, and was riding on a re.-ir truck, when the rope broke and Hie trucks left tlio roils. The log rolled over, pinning M'Loes to the ground and killing him instantly. lie was trying to apply the brake, t but failed. Jlis mates .called out a warning to him to get clear, but he persevered in his attempt to stop tho runaways. DRINKING OF BRANDY. • Taihape, November 7. At an inquest yesterday concerning the death of Charles Everett, aged 38 years, whoso body was found in his room at a boardinghouse, a verdict was returned to the effect that death was due to suffocation, caused by excessive drinking of brandy. RUN OVER BY A TRUCK. Gisborne, November 7. Charles Forbes, 33 years of age, a single ir.au, was run over by ;i truck at the Patutahi quarry this afternoon ami died within half an hour. Deceased was driving a horse attached to a metal truck, ami was walking slightly ahead of the truck when he slipped and fell on the track. The heavily-loaded vehicle could not be stopped in time, and passed over the man's legs near tho thisli, inflicting serious injury. .Medical aid was summoned, but tho injured man limi.'red unconsciously for only a short time. Deceased is understood to have come from America six years and has resided ill this district for four years. FOUND DROWNED. The bodv of the man found in the harbour on Monday moronii; turned out to 1)0 that (lf Duncan M'Coll, 45 years of age, erstwhile an assistant on the Parliamentary Library Stall', but lately a farm hand at Waiiotara. Ho had come down to Wellington for a rest, and to look for better employment. An inquest was conducted by Dr. M'Arlhur, 5..M., yesterday afternoon, but there was 110 evidence tendered of anything t'o suggest the cause of deceased's i'all into the harbour. Dr. Fylfo's evidence was that the body had been in 1 lie water for about nine days, and that there were no marks of violence on the body. "Found drowned" was the cfl'ecfc of his Worship's finding. FOUND IN THE lIARDOUR. An inquest on the body of the infant child found in tlie harbour near the To Aro baths oil .Monday morning was eonducted by Dr. .M'Arthur. K.M., ye?lcrday. The evidence of Dr. Kingdon J'yli'o was to tho effect; that the child had been prematurely born ami had never breathed. He thought that it. had probably not been in the water more than three days. The Coroner accepted the doctor's evidence as correct, and did not inquire further as to the cause of death.
