$ ECONOMIC AND FINANCIAL, ASPECT. SPEECH BY MR. JOHN REDMOND. By TciecraDh—l'ress association—CopyritrV. London, November 3. Mr. John Redmond, Loader of the Nationalist party, addressed a crowded meeting at. the City Liberal Club on "The Economic and .financial Aspect of Homo Kale." 110 declared that it had been England's deliberate policy lor two ecu-, turies to destroy Irish industries; honco Ireland's coimnercial and industrial history had been one of continual stagnation. It was hopeless to expect Ireland to rouso herself until she- had obtained native government. During the greater part of a century she had been paying two and a quarter millions above her fair proportion, and during that century she had contributed three hundred and twenty-nine million pounds for the British Army and .Navy, and for the general purpose of Empire. The cost of tho government of Ireland was the most costly in the world, because there was not a willing partnership with one of the richest countries. The cost of every luxury given to England had been extended to Ireland, and was charged to Irish revenue. There was no incentive for economy. Let Great Britain, continued Mr. Redmond, make o bargain with Ireland in a generous final settlement. Parliamentary business was so congested that Home Piule was equally required for England, Scotland, and Wales. A remarkable feature of the meetingwas that Lord Beauchamp, First Commissioner of Works, and tho Master of Elibank (Parliamentary Secretary to the Treasury) moved a vote of thanks to Mr. Redmond.
