THE MEN'S DEMANDS. Dy Telocraph—Presa Association—Copyright London, November 1. Tho railwaymen demand an eight-hour day, with ten hours for permanent-way men and carriers, and overtime at least at rato and a quarter, and double pay on Sundays.
They also claim that, men engaged temporarily in a higher grade should receive that higher grado pay. Length of service should also bo tho primary consideration in making promotions.

The railwaynien's manifesto and demands cabled yesterday emanated from Don'caster, and were approved by various meetings, including gatherings of tho men at King's Cross, Peterborough, and Bradford. Tho manifesto is now before the eien's executives for revision.
The companies declaro that tho demands are impossible, and if conceded will entail an additional annual outlay totalling several millions sterling. Tho committee of four of tho railw,Hymen's unions is sharply divided in opinion concorning the findings of the Tecent Strike Commission. The latast indications are that a compromise will be found towards a greater degree of rcoognition of the unions, with a'view to obviating any precipitato action.
