LOCAL CENTRE.
THE ANNUAL MEETING HELD. The annual meeting of the Wellington Centre of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association was held last evening, Mr. 1(. W. M'Villy presiding. . Also present were: Messrs. W. Dunn, A. -Trevors, W. Auld, J. H. Pollock, E. A. Dawson, L. Cooke, M. Burnett, T. W. ■ Leslie, H. W. Thompson, S. M'Kenzie, F Crewes, C. Lamberg, and A. C. Kitto. Tho chairman stated that ono club had failed .to reappoint its delegate. Tho latter therefore could not vote. Mr. Pollock contended that a delegate held office until liis successor had been appointed. This, ho stated, was borne out by a ruling of tho N.Z.A.A.A. Mr. Dawson supported tho chairman's Tuling. . _ The chairman said he desired to give all reasonable latitude, but clubs must obey tho rules. He declined to depart from his ruling. In subsequent discussion it appealed that a. number of clubs had neglected to notify the appointment or reappointment of their delegates. Mr. Pollock urged that a strong protest should be made against tho failure of some clubs to hold their Annual meetings by tho due date. Ho moved that the attention of clubs should be drawn to the rule requiring them to hold their annual meetings and appoint delegates before the annual meeting of tho centre. .Mr. Travers seconded tiio motion, and it was. supported by Mr. Dunn. Tho chairman remarked that when clubs failed to discbarge their duty in this particular the position of delegates was rendered intolerable, and the legality of .the proceedings of the centre was endangered. The motion was agreed to. A Successful Year. Moving the adoption of tho annual report and balance-sheet (already summarised in The Dominion) the chairman remarked that the outstanding event of tho past year had been the sending Homo of New Zealand athletes to competo at tho Festival of Empire sports. He regretted that the fact that they had found the climatic conditions trying had militated against the success of tho New Zcalanders. The balance-sheet showed a credit of .£lO 109. Bd. Ho congratulated tho centre on the success of its year's operations. The report and balance-sheet were adopted. Election of Officers, Mr. R. W. M'Villy was re-elected president for his third term. Other officers were elected as follow: —Vice-presidents, Messrs. E. A. l)awson, W. S. Corby, and W. 11. Pollock; hon. secretary, ilr. W. L, Dunn; hon. treasurer, Mr. A. C. Kitto; hon. handicappers, Messrs. A. C. Kitto, J. W. Heenan, W. 11. .Tones, W. L. Dunn; hon. starter, Mr. T. W. Leslie; hon auditor, Mr. A. Kilching, A.1.A.N.Z.; hon. local officer, Mr. A. C. Kitto; delegates to N.Z.A.A.A., Messrs. B. A. Guise and IV. I'. I.arkin; standard time-keeper, Mr. J. If. Pollock. Use of • the Basin. The Town Clerk wrote asking that the centre should continue its practice of conferring with tho Cricket Association in regard to tho use of tho Basin Reservo during tho coming season. Applications were, received as follow for the use of the Basin Reservo:—Wellington Club, TJeccmber IG, 1911; Civil Service Club, January 27, 1912, and November 30 (no charge); Victoria College, March 23, 1912. Mr. Travers stated that, the Port Nicholson Club would probably want tho reserve on a date in February and it was indicated that the ccntro would want to hold tho provincial championships 6n tho Basin Reserve on a Saturday. Tho president and secretary wero appointed to interview the Management Committee of the Crickct Association on the subject of dates. Meetings Authorised. The Civil Service Club was authorised to hold a sports meeting at the Basin Reserve on St. Andrew's Day, Thursday, November 30. No charge is to bo made for admission and entries aro to be restricted to members of tho Public Service. Permission was granted tho ICarori Club to hold an evening meeting on Wednesday, November 29 or, should that bo tho date of the general election, on tho following Wednesday. Sports Protection. The chairman stated that tho Sports Protection League was to hold a meeting on Wednesday, but that the centre had not been invited to send a delegate. Mr. Pollock said ho took it tnat tho failure to invito tho centre was duo to an oversight. It was agreed that a delegate should be appointed, and Mr. M. Burnett was asked to represent tho centre. General. Mr. M'Villy intimated that ho would present a shield, to be competed for at the annual championship meeting. (Applause.) A vote of thanks was passed to Mr. B. A. Guiso upon his resignation as a delegate for tho Manawatu Club. The Karori Amateur Athletic Club submitted a copy of its rules, and they wero approved by tho centre subject to the rule definim.' amateur status being
brought into conformity with the council's rules. Tho N.Z.A.A.A. asked the centre to nominate probable men for inclusion in the Australasian team. Tho handieappers were appointed to act as selectors. Tho Wanganui Caledonian Society wrote stating that at their meeting in .January they proposed to tender for the amateur element again, as in former years, and (o include cycling. -Air. Pollock remarked that this was a decided compliment to the amateur sports bodies. He had noted that tho Jlanawatu Caledonian Society had also decided to cater for amateur instead of professional sport. Tho secretary was instructed to notify all clubs of tiio Wanganui meeting. Half a guinea was donated to the Y.M.C.A., which has granted the uso nf a Toom to tho centro during the past year I'reo of charge.
