Tliero are no important developments in connection with tho waterside strike. Both sides havo adopted a waiting attitude. A number of interstate and coastal vessels which arrived during tho past couple of days are held up. Tho crews, tho permanent wharf hands, and tho clerks aro doing tli-eir best to handlo the perishable portions of the cargoes. Many clerks take the precaution to wear gloves, in order to avoid spoiling their hands. The crew of the Adelaide Company's oro steamers Nardoo, Lammcroo, 'W infield, which are held up by tho strike, havo been paid off, and the steamers aro lying in the stream with a good portion of their cargoes aboard. The wheat handlers working on tho deep-sea vessels among a largo quantity of produce are affccted. There are 3GOO bags of new crop potatoes in tho North Coast cargo steamers. A meeting of tho Wharf Labourers' Executive has decided to recommend to a forthcoming meeting of members of tho uaion that the Sydney strike ba condemned. The wheat loaders refused to load the steamer Wollowra. The crew also declined to put any wheat aboard, and tho vessel sailed without a cargo. COMPULSORY CONFERENCE. ANOTHER GATHERING SUMMONED. Sydney, October 30. Mr. Justice Higgins, of the Arbitration Court, has summoned another compulsory conference of the "Wharf Labourers and Waterside Workers' Unions and tho Steamship Owners' Association in Melbourne this aitcrnoon, with the object of preventing the strike from spreading beyond New South Wales(Ree. October 30, 0.15 a.m.) Melbourne, October 30. After the compulsory conference between tho representatives of tho Steamship Owners' Association and the Wharf Labourers' and Waterside AVorkejs' Unions had been summoned, Mr. Justice Higgins, of the Federal Arbitration Court, and the Industrial Registrar announced that tho Victorian and Queensland Unions were the only two represented, bocauso outside Now South Wales these were tho only States working under tho existing agreement. The conference had agreed strongly to urge the Sydney men to resume, and loyally to abide by the agreement, and the members also pledged themselves to do their utmost to prevent the spread of tho strike to other States. Auckland, October 30. Tho waterside workers declined to land passengers' luggage by the steamer V ictoria, from Sydney. It was landed by the vessel's crow.
