A MAJORITY OF THREE
LABOUR GAIN IN N.S. WALES. By Teleeraph—Press Association—Oopyrielit (Roc. Octobcr 29, 5.5 p.m.) Sydney, October 28. Tho voting in connection with the Liverpool Plains ami Maitiand by-elections took place to-day. At Liverpool Plains tho election was rendered necessary by the unseating of Mr. Perry on a recount after the by-election in August, and the vacancy at Maitiand was caused by the death of Mr. Gillies (Liberal) the sitting member. The Maitiand Teturns are complete, and the result is as follows:— Nicholson (Liberal) 3,005 Vial (Labour) 2,900 Liberal majority 705 At Liverpool Plains there aro a fciv small returns still to come, but these cannot alter the result. The figures stand at present:— Ashford (Labour) 3,887 Perry (Liberal) 3,322 Labour majority 5G5 The winning of tho Liverpol Plains seat by the Government leaves the party strength of tho Assembly as under: — Labour party 4G v Liberal party „. a Labour majority 2 As Mr. Willis, a Liberal member, is Speaker, the Liberal vote is reduced by a further oue, and the Government working majority increased to three.
