ATHLETICS.
WELLINGTON AMATEUR ATHLETIC CLUU. The annual meeting nf the Wellington Amateur Athletic Club is to bo held this evening. The- report states that the balance-sheet shows a balance, at the Tjnnk of ,£8 10s. 3d., which must bo considered satisfactory in view of tho fact that considerable extra cxpenso was incurred by tho necessary postponement of tho summer meeting. The committee reports with much regret the demise during tho year of ono of its oldest and most enthusiastic members, Mr. W. A. Pearman,- a vice-president of the club. The club sustained further losses through tho Temoval to Auckland of Mr. Geo. Dixon, mother vice-president, and Mr. Georgo Hendry, a member of the committee, both keen amateur enthusiasts. Tho committco desires to record its appreciation of the efforts of tho civic authorities in moving in the direction of obtaining tho sanction of the Legislature to extend tho number of days upon which a charge can bo made for admission to sports gatherings on city reserves. Messrs. T. M. Wilford, M.l\, and Councillor Geo. Frost aro especially entitled to the best thanks of members of local sports executives. The committed desires to place on record their keen appreciation of the efforts of Mr. T. K. Sidey, M.P., and tho gentlemen in sympathy with him to pass into law the Daylight Paving Bill. The colleges and public schools are yearly providing the city with largo number's of healthy athletic youths, whose inclusion in tho membership roll of the club would not only benefit tho causo of amateur athletics, but would provide a healthy and pleasurable recreation for many. The thanks of the club are due to Messrs. W. H. Pollock, W. F. Larkin P. Corby, and J. Ellis for donations to the club funds; to tho gentlemen who havo kindly assisted as officials at tho sports meetings,, and to the press, which has done so much to assist the club. POET NICHOLSON CLUB. The annual meeting of the Port Nicholson Athletic Club was (o have been held last evening, but was postponed for want of a quorum. The report showed that tho club held evening sports meetings during the past Fcason, which proved very successful. Tho club records its appreciation to the Cricket Association for its generous action in forgoing tho use of tho P,a.sin Reserve during the past season, when tho club's sports meeting had to be postponed on account of wet weather; also to" tho Petone Amateur Athletic Club for forgoing their original date of sports meeting in favour of tho club. During tho year Mr. AV. Dunn resigned his posftion as secretary, and Mr. F. Rolls was appointed to the vacancy. An afternoon sports meeting was held during the season, and though not successful financially it was a big success from a sports standpoint, there being good entries in most events. The annual meeting of tho club will bo held next Tuesday evening. The annual sports of St. Patrick's Collego aro to bo held on tho Basin Iteeno on Monday next
