TOWN PLANNING.
Sir,—ln reference to Mr. Rcado's lco* tuns and tho printed reports of tho remark touching Miramar, a brief comment may be permitted. Mr. Roadc haa the approval and thanks of all who desire to brighten civic life. In connection with the borough, it. is best in the intor.ests of its development to rectify inexact impressions, conveyed, perhaps, by necessary condensation of a valuable commentary. With tho inclusion of four large Government reserves, fifty acres of city reserve, and an athletic park of thirty-nine acres, and the possession of throe fair-sizod borough parks and reserves, some twonty-four squares, triangles, plantations, and building reserves, as well as tea miles of beaches, Miriuuar may l» said to be fairly well off. Of its subdivided exlcnt, nine-tenths is tnk<v.i up by sections of over a quarter of an acre in area. It is questionable if any other borough in New Zealand has during such a short period of existence a.<i such, installed electric trams, water, lighting, and arranged for drainage, 'gas service, and wharf and rail facilities for industrial purposes. In these three sentences may Ik> evidenoo of town planning, mid civic energy somewhat creditable to those who havo laboured for its advancement.—l am, etc., k. N. M'LEOD.
