GREYMOUTH FLOODED. ] —' 1 BIG WASHOUTS. ' Greymouth, October 25. j The flood in the Grey River is again i rising as high tide approaches. All the < low-lying portions of streets and sections 1 are under water, including Victoria Park, I where the trotting meeting was to have I been held to-day. This is now impos- i sible, as tho Jockey Club's course has I been injured by the overflow from the I Tiver. Tho races have been postponed until repairs are effected. There is a big wash-out on tho Otira railway, near Rotomana settlement, and anither on; a 1: the Blackball extensijo. The river is still rising. Greymouth, October 25. Tho district railway engineer dispatched gangs to all the wash-outs this morning, and repairs aro being effected promptly. The slip on the Blackball line was finished at Rotomana by mid-day, so tho express got through, though kite. Tho Otira River is in high flood, and [ has destroyed a good portion of the tunnel tip-head. It also cut in between tho traffic bridgo and M'Lean's cement store. Carried Down Stream. Tho driver of ono of tho coaches attempted to negotiate tho Waimakariri on horse-back this morning, but ho was carried down stream, and was glad to reach terra firms. There is no chance of tho passengers getting through. Paroa Road, south of Greymouth, is blocked for a milo with drift-wood from the New River. Men are eDgaged removing it. At Teremakan, a settlement north of Kumara Junction, the creek has cut into tho read formation. li' is still raining Lord and townspeople aro preparing for a Hod at midday, but the indications are not' alarming tho old settlers. Seventy head of cattle ,woro washed down the Grey River to tho sea last night. They belonged to Mr. Evan, of Ngahero. Three spans of tho Ikamatua Sawmilling Company's bridge, near Reefton, have boon washed away. It will tako a fortnight to effect repairs. The estimated damage is .£l5O. Two spans of tho bridgo ; near Blackball wero also washed away. i According to later reports tho floods are going down rapidly. THE BULLER FLOODED. ] Westport, October 25. I The heavy rain last night caused a i big flood in tho Duller River. Some i bridges in tho country have been washed ' away, and tho Reefton and Nelson coach I traffic stopped. j
