Trontham-tho scone of the Wellington Pacing Club's spring meeting—anil Miramnr, where, the Labour Day sports vrero hold, were the principal centres of holiday attraction yesterday. The city tramways staff also had a busy day, for" peoplo who remained in town travelled a good deal over tho city lines. Kith- available car was running, and tho services along tho routes where the tralfic was heaviest had to bo made moro frequent than on ordinary working days. Tho biggest crowds went to Mirciuiar, and the. service on that line was a three-min-ute ono practically all day. A ten-mmnte. service was maintained to Lyall Bay and Karori, and a twenty-minute service to Seatoun. . . . \bout 7000 people journeyed from Wellington, by train. The races accounted for 4500 of this number, but others whom "the sport of kings" does not amuso al.ro made iH of the railways. Some_ 1200 went to Plimmcrton and Paekakariki, 400 bevond Paokakariki, 300 to Upper Hutt, and 500 to Lower Hutt and Pctonc. The passenger capacity of the ferry .steamers to Day's Bay yesterday was taxed to its utmost. There was a largo number of people at lx>th Day's Bay and Eona Bay; A goodly contingent of peoplo also caino down from Petone. THE SPORTS AT MIRAMAR. ANNUAL CARNIVAL.
