EXHIBITION AT CHRISTCHURCH.

TO BE OPENED ON THURSDAY. (By Telcerapli.-l'rcss Association.) Christchurch, October 22. Preparations for tho opening of the Canterbury Trades and Labour Council's industrial exhibition next Thursday are in a forward condition, and it is expected that cither the Prime Minister or Sir James Carroll will officially open tho exhibition. Astonishment is expressed at tho excellent designs and expensive character of many of the displays to be made, especially as the present intention is that tho exhibition shall be open only for ono month. Satisfactory entries have been received in the different competition*, which will be judged next Saturday night. To augment the prize fund the "Uuiterbury Brick, Poltery, Pipe, Ti)o, and Clav Workers' Union has presented tho wholo of its exhibit, consisting of a number of valuablo and artistically designed articles, all nuulo in Canterbury clay, to the Competitions Committee
