I On Tuesdav evening Mr- and Mrs. W. J. Stevens, of Carterton, received a surprise visit from members of the local Methodist choir, and were presented with a silver-mounted salad bowl and spoons in honour of their recent wedding. On Wednesday morning the first lot of milk from the" twenty-ono cows participating in tho butter-fat competition under the auspices of the Wairarapo. A. and P. Society was received at the Belvedere dairy factory, the total being 9171b. This is ail average of 43.231b. per cow, which approximately equals fouT gallons each from two milkings. The accepted tenderers for tho erection of tho Coronation Band Rotunda in Carrington Park have declined to take up the work at the tender of JSI9S, and an amended'tender lias been forwarded. Accordingly all other tenderers have been invited "to submit fresh estimates. The weather on Thursday was too wet for tho official opening of the Carterton bowling green.
