Congratulations arc offered in regard to the comprehensive programme that is being prepared, and, particularly, in regard to tho artillery driving competition, which forms one of tho events. A somewhat severe accident happened this morning to a workman engaged in demolishing tho strong-room which was leit standing when the Union Bank was destroyed by firo some time ago. Tho contractors for the now bauking house are having the site cleared, and several workmen were engaged taking down tho brickwork when 'the structure suddenly col- • lapsed, and one of them was caught by ■ the falling bricks, reoeiving injuries on ■ the head, and being otherwise severely bruised. _ f Mr. M'Mimi, journalist of Palmcrston, • met with a nasty accident on Wednesday, lie slipped while crossing a culvert, and fell on his shoulder, receiving a painful injury. Manawatu Kilwinning Lodge ,<?£ Masons held its annual "social" at the Municipal Hall last night, when there was a largo attendance of members of the craft and their friends. The first part of tho evening was devoted to vocal and instrumental items, after which a dance was held. A children's party was given by tho lodgo this evening.
