• 0 (Br Treble Clef.) Lchar in America. Franz' Lchar, tho well-known. composer of "The .Merry Widow," is in America. A 11. Woods, the manager, prevailed lipon the famous composer to make his first visit to the United States to conduct the initial performance of "Gypsy Love/' which Marguerite Sylva will present at the Globe Theatre (says the "Theatre Magazine") on Mondey next (October 30). Mr. Lchar considers "Gypsy Loop" his masterpiece. This composer's visit will (says Ihe "Theatre Magazine") be an important event ill musical and theatrical circles. Such imr per tan t composers and musicians as Victor Herbert, Reginald De Koven and Frank Bamrosch will be on tho reception committee, and Manager A. 11. Woods is arranging with Arthur Pryor and his hand to escort Lchnr from the ship's landing to his hotel. A novel feature of tho escort will bo tho playing of airs from Lehar's operas, "Gypsy Love," "The Count of Luxemburg," ami "The Merry Widow." Mnrc Klaw. Henry W. Savage and A. H. Woods, who control three of Lehar's big musical works for America, will give the composer a bannuet on Tuesday. October 31. following the opening of "Gyp s y Love," to which all the important managers and musicians will he invit."d. • Miss Fitzmanrice Gill, tho experienced actress who appears as (he duchess in "Our Mill Gibbs," wields a facile pen on occasions, and is also a comivscr of merit. Sho has recently had published a charming little'ballad "entitled: "I Send Thee Violets," a sentimental Iritle nf much melodic charm, set in the middlo range to suit any voice of lyric quality. Scottish Music. By the last English mail, word was received from Mr. John Dixon, who is well known throughout Australasia in musical circles, , that tio will, early next year, manage a tour of a largo Scottish musical combination conducted by Sir Edward Moss's, famous musical director, j[r. GfiOTge Moore. Tho countries to be visited are South Africa, Australia, Xew Zealand, nnd Canada, and the tour will extend over a period of twelve months. The combination of tho United Kingdom's best instrumentalists should result in us hearing something that is a little rare in this part of the world—good music presented by good artists. At all performances the artists will don tho Highland full evening dress. Mr. Charles Albert, the clever comedian and dancer, for so long with tho Pollard Opera Company, has been promoted to leading parts with tho new Comic Opera Company. He has succeeded Mr. Langford Ivirby in "The Balkan Princess," in which ho sings that catchy lilt "I Wonder Whoso Kissing Iler Now."
