THE IMPOUNDING ACT.

A SUGGESTION REJECTED. The Government was asked by Mr. R. B. Ross, M.P., whether they would nrnend the Impounding Act this session, in tho direction of allowing owners of stock which have not been actually impounded to obtain possession of the same at any stago of the journey by tendering driving fees (as set out in the Act), based on mileage from the place jit. which the animals were trespassing to the point upon the road to tho pound at which payment is tendered. Tho Government reply is that tile arrangement proposed might lead to misunderstandings between tho owner of the livo stock and tho person driving it to the pound, especially as tho driver might rot know the proper fees. It is therefore, they say, thought inadvisable to adopt tho suggestion.
