Their so-called policy was a \otc-catching one, whereby thev proposed to present a. large sum of monev to ibo Crown tenants m the shape of the original value of tho freehold of the lands held by them, and m addition to this they ofiered sops in the shape of increased old age pensions, etc., without taking into account from what source the money was to be found, and while thev at the 1 samo time preached economy and abstinenco from borrowing. Tlio question of the present industrial unrest was touch- i ed upon by tho speaker, who held that i tho same was occasioned entirely by the ] high cost of living and decrease in the purchasing power of the workers' earnings. With respect to the present agitation >r another tunnel to Hataitaiand ' lulbirme be advocated that the Government and the City Council should cooperate in the construction of a large tunnel winch would sew* foi all time : for passengrr and cart traffic, and also , tor the railway line when electrified and - extended to Ivilbirnie and Miramar.
