VICTORIA COLLEGE.

MEETING OF THE COUNCIL. The monthly meeting of the Victoria. Collego Council was held last evening. Mr. C. Wilson (chairman) presided, and there wore also present: Sir Robert Stout, Dr. Prendergast Ivnight, Messrs. C. AVatson, G. Graham, T. R. Fleming, E. D. Hell, A. R. Meek, 11. F. Von Ilaait, H. 11. Ostler, and R. M'Xab. The financial statement showed a credit balance of ,£llsl lis. 7d. With the deduction of payments registered, .£Bl2 10s. Bd., tlw not balance was XGOD os. lid. There is a sum of .£ISOO on deposit, mid a sum of ,£1675 is due as Government statutory grant. Mr. A. N. Lo Soeuf, of the Sydney Zoological Gardens, has forwarded to Professor H. B. Kirk a koala (Australian bear), an echidna (nat eater), and two tuatara lizards, for the college museum. Professor Kirk notified the council to this effect last night, and it was decided to thank Mr. Le Soeuf. Tho Finance Committee's report stated that the chairman, of the College Debating Society had reported that the union prize had been won by Mr. W. J. M'Eldowney, and the committee recommended that ho be authorised to ordor books to the value of ,£'4 7s. Gd., tho amount of the nrize. The Collego Tennis Club had asked for a grant of JEIO towards levelling two of the courts, and the committee recommended that the payment be made. Three students had applied for refund of fees owing to having been unable to attend lcctures. The refunds, totalling ,€G Gs„ were recommended. Mr. Cotton had written asking for a sum of £7 for a glass case in which to place a collection of plaster models of fossils, which are liknly ta be lent to the coilege by the Geological Survey Department. The committee recommended the payment. Mr. Cotton had also drawn attention to the inadequate share of the library vote given (he Geological Department. The committee recommended that this matter bs referred to the Library Committee. Tho report of the Finance Commitlee was adopted, and the council then went into committee.
