Tha ..'.Msrttiland Shipping Corapane's steamer L&udcrdalo aa-rived from farmer v«t«rdajr witli a damaged propeller. The accident occurred when tho vessel was leaving Port Ahuriri. She vaa jurt movinsf off from the wharf when her propeller came in violent- 'contact with something. Upon examination it was found that a large piece of each of the four blades of the propeller had been broken off. The vessel proceeded to Wellington, and arrived as stated above. She is to be slipped to-day, and will have a new propeller fitted. When elm comes off the slip she wLLI proceed to Hokiangx and Ka> para to load timber for Melbourne.
THE PANAMA CANAL. It is roported (states the Sydney "Herrid") that the Isthmian Canal Commission intend to construct, at the Atlantic entranco' to the canaL, a eerics' of five reinforced concrete dockn, at which ten ICOOft. Teasels will bo able to berth at tho samo time. Tiic plan provides for an anchorage basin cart of tho canal, an artificial mole projecting from Cristobal Point, and dscks between Oils mole and the anchorage bawl and around Cristobal Point, under comjilcte shelter for vessel?, which will thus uc enabled to discharge and load cargo vrithout entering the canal.
