NATT LEAGUE AND THE SCHOOLS. "Trafalgar Day" falls on next' Saturday nnd the anniversary of the greatest naval event in tho Empire's history is not being ovorlooked by the Navy League. Cilinens aro to be asked to display bunting, and ilie following circular letter has been issued to headmasters of schools by the local hon. secretary of the league (Mr. C. W. Palmer):— "Dear Sir,—lt is hoped by tho Navy League that, as on former occasions, you and your committee will givo your kind co-operation in the commemoration of the great ovent, fraught' as it was with such far-reaching results, and affecting as it did the freedom and peaco of the nations of the world. It is desired to take Iho opportunity of bringing homo to tho children th« plain fact that our recurity from aggression and the protection of New Zealand's worth of oversea trade is entirely dependant upon the strength of out,, navy. - With the altered conditions and the naval competition of others Powers, we should also all fully realiss the necessity of tho outlying and scattered portions of tho Empire cooperating with tho Mother Country in one sehemo of Imperial defence. It is respectfully suggested that, on Friday, you or members of your committeo should give a short, address nnd that patriotic songs bo sung. For Saturday afternoon arrangements havo been made with West's nnd Fuller's Biograph Proprietaries to exhibit rets of naval films and lantern slides of Trafalgar at the King's and Ilis Miijosty's Theatres. League members, wearing their medals are to bo admitted at half-price. Concession tickets can bo obtained at tho theatre doors or at my office. Regarding Navy' Leaguo essays, it is not proposed to present the Navy League prizes until November next', when it is hoped to arrange for a big gathering at the Town Hail."
