Tho Wellington Provincial Executive of (ho New Zealand Fanners' Union liavo voted a sum of .CIO to the Wanganui Education Board for the purpose of estalv lishing a rural scholarship. In so doing the executive express their appreciation of the practical interest which the board takes in rural education. The scholarship scheme has been received, not unkindly, by other bodies interested in the well-being of agriculture. The samo body lias n.h'o offered to donate -C2O towards tho establishment of sheep-shearing classes which probably will he started ill (his town. Some idea of the lines on which rural education is being carried on in primary schools in this district is given by the Septemlw syllabus, which is quoted by Chief-T'ispeetor Bmik. In the 1101thern division of tho district dairy work, grasses, fruit trees, sowing and planting have been staple subjects for lesso-is, while, in ihe south, the work of planting and sowing has been continued. Encouraged li.v the snows of tho lost garden fete, the Beautifying Society is now talcing preliminary' steps, for tho holding nf another affair of Ihe sure kind. Tho society's finds benefited to the extent of several hundreds bv Ihe 10.- t feto. tho greater portion of wiiich has been spent in the purchase of n-w trees, shrubs, and swds from within ami without New Zealand, and ill labour.
