EXPLOSIONS ON A CRUISER. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright Paris, October 1". A series of accidents occurred during gun-practice on the third-class cruiser Lavosier at Toulon. A quantity of powder had to be thrown overboard. The French Navy lias had an unfortunate experience with defective ammunition during recent years. It was believed by many that the explosions which wrockcd the Jena at Toulon in 1907 were duo to the decomposition of what' was known as the "JJ" powder, eighty per cent of which was stated to bo more than six years old. An exhaustive inquiry, however, failed to throw clefinito light on the causo of the disaster. It' was also declared that the recent blowing up of the battleship Liberie wit'h its appalling loss of life, was also due to the decomposition of the powder in the ship's magazine.
