Palmcrston, October 17. The Borough Council to-night decided to scenre a report from Mr. F. Hokitika, October 17. shortly before six o'olock this evening an outbreak of firo occurred at Keller's Hotel, and some damage to tho interior of the building resulted, this damage being to tho extent of about .£2OO. A southerly galo was blowing at the time, and, but lor tho prompt arrival of tho fire brigade, a disastrous conflagration would havo resulted. Tho loss is covered by insurance. GISBORNE FIRE. Gisborne, October 16. Fire- destroyed a cottage owned by Mr, W. Linruy and occupied l,y Mr. Ryan. It was insured for 4:150 in the Standard ollice. Another cottage, owned by Mr, Tattloy, of Auckland, which was uiioccupied, 'was" also destroyed. The insurance is not available. SETTLER'S HOUSE BURNT. Levin, October IC. On Saturday night a lire destroyed a houso owned and occupied by an old cottier, Mr. W. Corner, lie went to the railway station, leaving a firo aligjit, and by tho time ho returned everything waa destroyed. Tho furniture was insured for .-C2OO, and tho building lor .£3OO, in the Norwich office.
