A deputation thereupon waited on tho Mayor in connection with these statement*, and the Mayor then explained that a reieronce to tho original copv of th-3 telegram received from Wellington showed that tho word "increase." should have bosn "decrease." Ho iurther stated that if the wire had been received as put in at the To Aroha office, his reply would have been "Yes," as, in lii's opinion, Waihi had not received either moral or material benefit as a result of No-License. The Mayor has made a statutoiy declaration to tho alovo effect.
