Miss Uaroincro-Mfilttiy is arranging an interesting anil varied programme for the afternoon ton which is to ho given her on Friday, October 27, at die Marino Engineers' Hall. Miss Nola Hnybittle, Miss May Putnam, and Mr. Cyril Bhmlicll will sing. Miss Bertha Miles is (loins n musical monologue, little Miss Daphno Dryden will recite, Miss Amy Thane appears in an amusing dialogue, and Lieutenant Stephens is to sing some smartly humorous songs. A bright little play is to be enacted by Miss Maltby and Mr. W. D. Gorham, and also a short dramatic Shakespearean scene. On Saturday evening those people who visited the exhibition of pictures in tho Academy of Fino Arts were entertained by a very enjoyable concert. Contributing to the programme were Miss Gore, Miss B. Miles, Mr. Northcote, and Mr. Sandstcin. The death of Mrs. Smith, wife of Mr. S. Percy Smith, ex-Surveyor-General, tcok place at New Plymouth on Thursday. Mrs. Smith was a daughter of Mr. \V. 31 orpin Crompton, who was Speaker of the Provincial Council for many yeaxs. Miss M'Dougall (Pirenoa) is in town, and is staying with Mrs. G. Didsbury. Mr. and Mrs. Strauchan (Wellington) have been visiting Wanganui. Mrs. L. Blundell and Mrs. Nelson are visiting Mrs. J. Blundell (Gladstone). Miss Kettle and Mass V. Kettle, who have been on a visit to Wellington, left by the Arahura on Saturday for Greymouth. Mrs. Macphail, of Victoria College, has gone to Nelson for a few days. Miss Bcwley, who has been visiting Dannevirke and Wellington, returned to New Plymouth on i'riday. Miss Brewster, who look part in the golf tournament at Heretaunga, has returned to New Plymouth.
