Newman (member for Manawatu), who veil stand, under the auspices of the Reform party, for Kangitikei, at tho coining general election. WAIRARAPA. Mr. AV. C. Buchanan, Jl.i\, ivill address electors in his constituency at Ponatahi this evening. WANGANUI. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) Wanganui, October 13. Air. C. E. Alackay, Mayor of Wanganui, who is contesting the Wanganui seat as an Independent Liberal, opened his campaign this evening. PALMERSTON. Palmerston, October 13. Mr. William Thomson, farmer, of Liuton, announces that he intends to contest the Palmerston sent at tho general election as an Independent. TEMUKA. Timaru, October 13. Mr. W. Jeffries, who headed tho poll n,t the first ballot at last election, opened the campaign for the Temuka seat as an Oppositionist at Temuka to-night. fie spoke in favour of tho freehold, an elective Legislative Council, and a Public Service Hoard, and said ho would give a trial to the Vaile railway system. DUNEDIN NORTH. Dunedin, October 12. Mr. J. Loudon, Ministerial candidate for Dunedin North, addressed a meeting of electors to-night. He supported the Liberal Government for the reason that ho believed its policy had been of infinitely greater benefit to tho. great body of tho people than any legislation they could have hoped for from the opposite side, lie referred to tho public debt, asserting that they had splendid assets to show for tho liability, and this, he submitted, was tho true test of financial stability. With proper restrictions guarding Hie State from monopoly for speculative purposes, he favoured the freehold, but would just as vigorously oppose any system of freehold permitting the aggregation of big estates, aud locking up tho lands. He said tho Opposition proposed to confiscate tlie Native lands, and contended that such proceedings cculd be justified were there no open lands available for settlements. Ho received a unanimous vote of thanks. if Tho insertion of the significant word not" in a passage of .our report in yesterday's issue of Dr. Izard's speech at kolburne makes the.candidate to he somewhat seriouslv misrepresented. The report stated that JJr. Irani said that he was not in favour of the retention of the three-fifths majority in tho local option poll, whereas what he did say was that ho believed in the three-fifths majority, and was opposed to tho substitution for it of the bare majority. Mr. John Brodie, the Independent Liberal candidate for Wellington East, will address electors in the JJowling Club Pavilion, Hataitai, on Monday evening. Mr. Byron Brown, who is standing for the Otaki seat, will address the Hiraitangi electors in the schoolhouse, Hiniitangi, at 8 o'clock on Monday night. According to the"Clutha Preo Press" it is possible, that tho Hon. T. Mackenzie may Ire nominated for Clutlia as well as Egmont.
