ANOTHER PICTURE THEATRE. The latest in picture theatres is, or will be, the Adelphi, in Willis Street. The architects arc Messrs. Hoggard and Prouse, and the successful tenderers arc Messrs. Howie and Matthews, at ,£6733. The other tenders received were:—P. C. Watt, .£G745; Meyer and Illiugworlh, ■£6748; Trevor, .£7286; .T. C. Brown, .£7309; Campbell and Burke, .£7500; Mack and Nicholson, .E7SGO; Sanders Bros., •£7634; Watts Bros., <£8C00; Muir and Rose, ,£9OOO. Tho Adelphi is to be erected on the vacant section at the rear of Hume's Buildings, Willis Street. A spacious entranco to the stalls and circles will be provided by a iireproof corridor 23ft. in width, lending from Willis Street, at a point now occupied by two shops. In the centre of tho corridor is (lie ticket office, on the left of which rises tho grand staircase in reinforced concrete, ]oft„ in width, leading to the promenade and spacious circle, which is carried on steel trusses, with n clear span of !!)ft., thus doing away with all columns, and giving an uninterrupted view of tho pictures from the stalls below. The whole of the circle is in reinforced concrete, and provided with upholstered seals, each row having a rise of twelve incites, tho comfort and sight-lines having been carefully studied. The entrance to the stalls is to the right of tho ticket office, the floor of which, falls from the rear to the front of tho orchestral well, which is sunk some three feet below floorlevel at that point, and is provided with tho necessary ante-rooms for orchestra a.nd performers. The whole of the interior is to be finished in plaster, with enriched pilasters, moulded cornices, and ornamental beamed ceilings, which will ba relieved and decorated in an artistic manner. Tho lighting and vonlilation have received special attention, the vitiated air being extracted by n powerful electric suctionfan, installed in the roof. The theatre is provided with numerous fire-escapes, cloak-rooms, and conveniences, and has a wide-covered exit to Bouleott Street. The whole building will have many improvements not hitherto introduced into any picture theatre in the Dominion, and is expected to be completed early in the Xew Year.
