GENERAL FARMING NEWS.

: While engaged in sowing grass seed and clover recently, a Kyle farmer shot a number of sparrows. On dissecting the birds lie found that their crops were full of seeds, 1 but there were uo signs of tho birds having devoured grubs or worms.

Entries for the Yv airarapa Show on October 25 and -26 are closing shortly, and intending exhibitors are reminded to send in their entries at an early date.

The percentage of lambs in the Bush Districts is not expected to bo'as high as in former years (says an exchange). Some good tallies are reported, however. A settler in the Woodville district docked the excellent percentage of 133, while Mr. Humphries at Akitio had 110.

Docking operations were completed on the Matahiwi estate on Monday (says the Maslerton "Age"). TJio percentage of lambs from 5000 ewes was about one hundred.

Home separation is reported to bo engaging considerable attention in the Waikato this year, a large number of dairymen having adopted the system. In some districts homo separation is being pursued by tho major portion of those engaged in dairying, and as a result two creameries have closed down.

A small sheepfarmer who livc3 close to the borough docked his lambs last week (says tho Woodville "Examiner"), and found ho had only about 50 per cent. Previous years his average was between 70 and 80 per cent,, and this year he is not a bit pleased at the result, for the dogs from the town have caused a loi of trouble amongst his sheep and reduced his average. Only last week ho found a greyhound busy worrying a fine lamb.

A parsnip measuring Ift. has been dug recently by Mr. A. Thompson, of Aorangi.
