ROOMS SHATTERED.
1, ACETYLENE GAS EXPLOSION. (By Telegraph—l'ress Association.) Timaru, October 10. At nine p.m. on Monday tho diningroom and tivo bedrooms in the Fairlie Hotel wore wrecked by an explosion of acetylene gas. The gas h;i<l been escaping somewhere, as it had lie.m smelt for a day or tiro before. The lea'; v,\i3 apparently between the coiling and the floor above tho dining-room, as that struo hire was practically destroyed, and the furniture damaged. All tho windows were blown out, and tho explosion shook tho whole building, anil was hrard all over the townsliip. Fortunately, it did not start a general fire, though a brokan gaspine was flaring till the meter was turned off. No one was n<iar tho sceno of tho explosion except Mr. lleckie, a visitor, who struck a match on entering the room. Ho sustained cuts about the face. I
