It is officially announced that tho Grand Cross of the Bath has been conferral 011 Lord Dudley, laic GovernorGeneral of Australia.—Press Association. Mr. A. L. Herdmau, M.P., left for the south last evening, owing to the receipt of news of the serious illness of his father. Leave of absence for the remainder of the session of Parliament has been granted to Mr. A. "\V. Hogg (Mastcr(on) and Mr. r. Mander (Marsden), in each caso on account of illness. Mr. Ti. B. Morris, who lins been actingchief postmaster in G'hristchurch since January, succeeds to the position, vice Mr. S. P. Stevens, retired. Mr. Morris hiis been in the postal service for tho past 35 years. Joining it at Timaru in 1875, ho practically served his apprenticeship in Christchureh, and was trausfened to Auckland in ISS9, and from there to Wellington. Three years later he w;is re-transferred lo Cliristcburch to lake the position of chief citric. In 1908 lie was appointed assistant-postmaster at Wellington, and in the following year lie was made inspector of Savings Banks. Mr. Morris has gone throngh all tho branches of the postal service, in j.vhich he has always been a popular officer.— Press Association. Mr. W. ±v. Benson, of Sydney University, has been awarded an exhibition worth ,£SO per annum by Emmanuel College, Oxford.—Press Association. Mr. Murray Keano, architect, of Wellington, has been successful in obtaining second place for his design in open competition for tho proposed new Girls' framing Hostel in connection with the Technical College, Chrislchurch. Mr. T. B, Bowring, of Christchurch, secured first place. Mrs. Dcnham, wife of the Hon. D. P. Denham, Premier of Queensland, was a passenger to Wellington from • Sydney by the Warrimoo vc-aterdny. The tenth anniversarv of the Rev. P. W. Clarkson's work in Taihape in charge of St. Margaret's Church was mado tho occasion of a large gathering of parishioners. After expressing their appreciation of his work among them, ana hoping that he would continue with them lor many years to come, the parishioners presented the vicar and Mrs. Clarkson with a sterling silver rose bowl and silver mustard, pepper, and salt, in case. Au enjoyable evening was terminated with the 'singing of "Auld Lang Syne." Mr. J. Davidson, at present headmaster of the Pnrkvalc School, in the Wairarapa, has been appointed to a similar position at Epuni School, at the Uutt.
