GREAT INCREASE LAST YEAR. By Teleeraph—Press Association—OodjtleM Melbourne, October 10. The total trade of tho Commonwealth last year was .51M,505,000, an increaso of .£18,015,000 compared with the previous year's figures. The average trado per head of population was .£3O Bs., as against i£26 19s. Id. for tho previous year. Tho imports totalled .£50,014,000, and tho exports .£71,497,000, as against .£51,172,000 and <£65,319,000 respectively in 1909. Tho total trado of New Zealand in 1910 per head of population was ,£39 10s. id. In 1909, while the total overseas trado of the Commonwealth was only ,£26 19s. Id. per head, tho external trade of tho individual States (i.e., their interstate and overseas trade) was, of course, much higher, and ran as follows:—New South Wales, <£4G I3a. Ifld.; Victoria, £(3 15s. 5d.; Queensland, «£44 ss. Bd.; South Australia (including Northern Territory), ,£SB 7s. 9d.; West Australia, £55 17s. 10a.; and Tasmania. .£35 lis. 9d. Canada in 1909 had a total external trado of .£22 18s. d<i.; the United Kingdom, .£2O Bs.; the United States, £7 3s. 4d.; France, .£l2 ss. 7d.; Germany, ,£ll 7s. 3d.; Austria-Hungary, .£4 Is. 5d.; and Japan, .£1 15s. 7d.
