AN ANNIVERSARY.

The seventieth anniversary of tho Taranaki Street Methodist Church •■ Sunday School was celebrated yesterday. The threo services—morning, afternoon, ond evening—were well attended, several hundred being unablo to gain admittance at night. In the morning the Rev. B. H. Ginger preached on "Home Life, and How It Affected the Nation." In the afternoon the Rev. C. N. Olds delivered an interesting address. The speaker held in his hand a copy-book. He pointed out how the top line was almost perfect handwriting, and the punil was encouraged to copy it. Jesus Christ might bo regarded as the top line.for men,' for lie. was' the only, perfect man.'-- All-the : good men-'wltfi havo ever lived tried to do so, but" they all had their shortcomings and - failings.. In the evening the "Rev;-J. G. Chapman preached an eloquent sermon. He took as his subject "The Life of Joseph." Although he was sold into slavery by his brothers, tho hand of God was always guiding liiin, and, indeed, throughout his whole life, God was always with Mtn. He instanced how Joseph, when he rose to affluence and power in Egypt, had the opportunity of avenging himself on his brothers, but, instead, he showered gifts on them, and repaid good for evil. Duriag the services the Sunday School pupils sang a number of hymns suitable for the occasion. In the evening Mis:es Chapman and Brittain sang tho duct "I Hoard A Voice," and the soloists were Messrs. Russell, Grave, Redvers, and Haymes, and 'Misses Tipling, Moss, Surrcll, and Unsworth. Mr. F. Pierard was conductor, and Mr. W. J. Harland presided at tho organ. . The church v, ~s beautifully decorated for the occasion. The collection taken up at the three services on behalf of the school work realised .£sl 75., this being an increase on the figure for last year. '
