New by-law;, made by the London County Council, have come into force in connection with the Employment of Children Act, 19(13. In regard to the employment of children generally, it is provided that no boy or girl umlor fourteen years, and liable to attend school, flwll bo employed for more than three and a half hours in any one day beforo B-30 in the morning or after 6.30 in Che evening. This has reforenco to days ou which schools aro open; on other days such children may be employed eight hours in one day, but not before 6.30 a.m., or after 9 p.m. The now ruloas to morning work will have a marked effect in many districts where little boys take round tho milk. On Sundays a child Under fourteen may not be employed between 7 a.m. and 1 p.m. for a period exceeding three hours. No child under fourteen years shall be allowed to work in a barber's shop. Thero aro eight special by-laws concerning street trading by porsons under tho ago of sixteen years. .For instance, no girl under sixteen and no boy under fourteen shall bo allowed to carry ou street trading: further, no boy under sixteen ican trado in the streets beforo six in tha morning or after nine at night.
