KENT TERRACE CHURCH.
TWENTY-FIFTH ANNIVERSARY Last evening, being thfe occasion of the twenty-fifth anniversary of the Kent Terrace Presbyterian Church, a_ conversazione was held, the Rev. J. Kennedy Elliott, 13.A., presiding. At the conclusion of tho chairman s ad. dress a programmo of musical and otliei items was rendered and, during the even. ing, tho. Rev. Graham 11. Balfour, M.A., 15.D., gave an interesting address on tho , Far East. The speaker slated that lie had travelled that part of tho world and thought that it was wonderful to notice how the Far East was becoming civilised through religion. Hospitals ana asylums, for instance, were now staffed with Chinese and Japanese nurses. In Peking the old examination halls that had stood for ages had been demolished, and it had been decided to erect a modern Parliament House. Within two years, the speaker continued,' China would have a-- " Constitution. In Hankow there was a factory which employed 1000. hands, and a few" whites and,.from here, steel, rails , were exported to America "where ■ they oould bo sold at a cheaper rate than th« local article. Mr. Balfour added that an educated Chinese had told him that, if the race were educated without religion, it would be like putting winfjs on a tiger. Without tho Christian Teligion China would be a menace to tlio world. 11l conclusion tho speaker urged that religious work should be-pushed on in the Far . East, for now was the opportunity. If this opportunity were lost it would take 100 vears to accomplish work that at present" would only take 10 years to do. The following contributed to the ' programme:— Messrs. Hannay. Sturtevcnt, E. and R. Ward, Bennett, Begg, Kennedy,' Carnet, Messrs. Potter, Goudie, Smith, Ellison, and Barton.
