BIJOU THEATUE OPENED. Tlio most recent addition to tho rapidlygrowing array of .(cinematograph entertainments in IN en" Zealand is tho Bijou Theatre. Tho Bijou was opened for tho first time on Saturday evening, Tho liouso was packed upstairs and downstairs, and prior to the commencement of tho show a good-many .flattering-tributes were paid . to the enterprise of tho promoters of tho Jjijou. was tho aim of tho management on Saturday evening to present to their patrons an entirely now and hitherto unscreened set of films. The star attraction of the pro.frammo -was a particularly fine Australian drama, entitled "One Hundred Years Ago," a pictorial romancc full of life and colour and incident, culled from events of tho stirrinudays of early Australian history. An interesting picture in this particular series is that which sheds a strong light on tho old Botany Bay convict system. Another fine study consisted of an adaptation from Tennyson's poem "Maud," which is beautifully mounted, and by excellent artists most graphically told. .Needless to say tho programme includes q,"ito a number of pictures of tho Wild West. Among those may bo .mentioned "Hobby ond His J'al." "A Gambler of tho West,' and. "The Ghost of the Vault," the last-named being a particularly fine dramatic study. Travel pictures arc represented by two good studies, "Itural England" and "Summer in tho North." comic studies include tho "Runaway Star" and "Dogs Not Allowed." Other good films are: "Views of I'nris," "J.ove'3 Awakening," and "First •I/ovo. is Best."
