: « r— AN UNSUCCESSFUL; APPEAL. The matter of tho admission or the exclusion of the Marist Brothers schoolboys from the public schools competitions was considered at tho annual meeting oi' the Wellington Public Schools Cricket Association on Saturday. An application was made that tho Marist boys should bo admitted, and, m his annual report, tho chairman (Mt. B. Darroch) said that a 4 "these inter-sehoo competitions are admittedly such goud things for our boys, and as our competition is tho only summer one in Wellington for primary school boys, I_ do. exhort you to admit them the told. They aro to be our future citizens as well'as our own boys, and they must derive great benefits from participation in our most excellent cricket competitions They are inspected by our inspectors, they drill with us in our endet battalions, and don't let sport (above all things) perpetualo any diflercnco, little or great, between tho two classcs of schools. Let us know them, as our own boys, tliey aro units in our state, aud we should put the state abovo all. Tho Mnrist boys aro admitted to the public school competitions in Auckland, Christ church, Duncdin, Napier, .Marlborough, in fact, as far as f I can gather from authentic information, in any district where any orgoirised sports competition, exists. ; . • I, therefore, leave the mattor to your gfnerosity of spirit, and earnestly appeal to you to admit the Marist Brothers' School./ 1 Mr. Darroch's appeal failed. On tie motion of Mr. D. M. Yeates, tho application for their admission was not entertained.
