ROWING.
OPENING OF THE SEASON. Tho Wellington - rowing season opened on Saturday . afternoon under perfect weather conditions. There was a very large number of ladies and gentlemen present, and the various events were watched with interest. ' Tho season was officially declared open by Mr. H; D. Bell, president of tho Wellington Rpwing Association. ' A cutter race between present members and old members took place, which resulted in a win for the latter. The results of tho sculling races are as follow:— Senior Fours.—First heat: Stars, 1: Wellington, 2. Won by three-quarters of a length. . Second heat: Petone, 1 • Stars, 2. Won by a canvas. Final: Stars," 1. Won by nearly a length. Veterans' ..Fours— Stars 1; Wellington, 2. Junior Double Sculls.—Petone, 1: Wellington, 2. , Senior Double Sculls.-Star, 1; Petone, 2; WeJhnprton, 3. Junior Fours.—First heat': Petone, I. becond heat: . Wellington, 1. FinalPetone, 1; Wellington, 2. The officials for the day were: Messrs. b. Hutchison .and G. F. Campbell, judges; and .Mr, K. Crawford starter.
