For the opening day of the season it was docided to ask the Wanganui Club to send a team down, the match to be a benefit ono in aid of the -funds of tho Feilding District High School Committee, for the impTovemciit of tho school grounds. Mr, F. Y. Lethbridgo is giving a b»t, which is to be awarded as tho committee may dicidc. - , . Tho liuahine Ranges are clothed thickly in a white mantle. Awahuri has just opened its tennis n.nd croquet season with a membership of 07. Mrs. Walter Johnston is patroness of the new club. Tho anniversary services of the Feilding Primitive Methodist Christian Endeavour Socicty was celebrated yesterday. Tho Rev. S. B. Maidon was the preacher. There were'eleven entries at the Feilding A. and P. Association's annual horse parade. Tho pilfering of cargo is still going on. Mr. John Cobbe, of Feilding, found nino straw hats missing from a caso of men's goods, and four tussore silk ladies' costumes from another.
FEATHERSTON
A social in connection witli tho Presbyterian' Church was held at Kaliutara on Thursday night. A number of Featherston visitors were present. Songs were contributed by Mcsdames J. Cou, Arch. Clark, Parker, and M'Garvie, and Messrs. Bartholomew and. Hawk. Recitations wcro given by Miss Miller (Wellington) and Messrs. G. K. Stowell and A. C. Holins.
OTAKI
Mr. Stanley Pole, who is at present in England, leaves for New Zealand on October W. A gymnasium club has been opened in Paraporauinu, and has already a satisfactory membership list. Mr. Ij. Fishci, an old identity, is at present seriously ill. Mrs. Bright, s<mr., is also still indisposed, and has been unable to leave her room lor many weeks. The Otaki Bowling Club expects to open the. season about Labour Day. The green is looking well.
SHANNON
Mr. W. Murdoch occupied tho chair at Iho Druid's Hall on Wednesday evening when Mr. Byron Brown opened his election campaign in tliis district'. Mr. Drown spoke on similar linos to his Otaki nddress. Ho dealt with the increased cost of living in the Dominion, and the alleged "free breakfast' table" of the present: Administration. He commended Mr. A. W. Hogg's Food Duty Abolition Bill, and generally attacked the Government. In reply to questions ho stated that he did not believe in the party system, and was glad to be in his present position of independence, untrammelled by party claims. Ho admitted, however, that had the Koform party asked him to bo their nominee lie would have acceded to the re(|Ucst. Mr. 'I'. Lind moved a of thanks which was carried by acclamation. During the evening Miss l'auline Brown gave a recitation which was heartily applauded. The partnership of Mr. G. Gowcr, of Ohau, and Mr. S. W. Carter, Shannon, trading under the naino of Hie Shannon I Meat Company has been dissolved.
