Ormond's motion regarding the land settlement was carried on the voices. Tho lion. C. H. Mills gavo uotico of a motion expressing dissatisiaction at tho refusal of the Attor-nuy-Ueneral to supply any iniormation in regard to tho Coronation invitations. Tho Houso began the day's work by discussing tho absence of Mr. Henaro Kaihau, member for tho Northern Maori District. A n urn bar of members expressed strong dissatisfaction; Sir James Carroll delended the absentee, and the House eventually agreed to grant Mr. Kaihau leave of absence, on the understanding that medical testimony as to illness would bo produced. The Standing Orders Committee reported on tho ventilation of tho House, and kindred subjects, and, after a good deal of talk, members decided to do nothing in the meantime. Daring the greater part of tho afternoon, and for tho l rest of tho sitting, tho House worked steadily at tho Estimates, beginning with those of tho Justice Department. There was a long and desultory discussion on a variety of questions, including the administration of the Polico Department. There was some comment upon the fact that tho Minister in charge of tho Department (Sir John I'indlay) was vot there to answer for himself.
