(From Our Spccial Correspondents.! OTAKI. An inquest was held at Manakau yesterday touching tho death of Kira, a Native, who was found dead this week with a gun by bis .»ide. After evidence by a number of Natives, the coroner (Mr. W. C. Nation) returned a verdict of "Suicide while temporarily insane." At the card tournament on Wednesday night the local l>owlors met and defeated members of the Druids' Lodge. A cheoe factory is to be erected at Manakau, and the supply from 500 cows lias been promised.- The erection of a suitable building will be proceeded with at an early date. CARTERTON. Mr. W. C. Buchanan, M.P., president of the Carterton Gun Club, has donated a guinea towards tho club's funds. Mr. W. Jiedmond has made a donation of two guineas. The Carterton Bowling Club has decided tin officially open the season Thursday, October 10. 'l'lie green will bo open, a. week before for practice, should weather permit. A quarterly summoned mteting of Loyal Heart of Oak Lodge was held in tho Foresters' Hall 011 Wednesday evening, Bro. I{. A. Bick, N.G., presiding. The district;secretary wrote stating that the district officers would visit the Greytown Lodge 011 Wednesday evening, October IS, and it was decided that as many members of the Carterton Lodge as possiblo should visit Greytown 011 that occasion. It was decided to hold a card evening for members and their wives, daughters, and lady friends at the Fire Brigade Hall on Thursday, October 5. HASTINGS. The Longlands Saleyards Company held its first annual meeting yesterday, when the chairman of directors (Mr. !l. A. Miller) presented a report, which stated that the first year's operations had been very successful. He mentioned that tho net income showed 20 per cent, profit on tho capital invested, and a dividend of 5 per cent, was declared. These yards are' situated alongside the railway line, and their convenience has been recognised by local stcck dealers. Mr. A. I!. Muir. chairman of directors of the "Poverty Bay Herald," has been spending a few days in Hastings.
