HUTT BOROUGH COUNCIL.
3h,e Lower Hutt Borough Council met last night. There were present:- Mr. E. P. Bunny (Mayor) and Councillors Roots, Stevenson, Ball, Knight, Hodgins, Kempthorne, Clindon, and Hobbs. The. borough solicitor advised having urged Mrs. Duff to comply with a request in which she was called upon to remove a fence on her Itiverbank property to its alleged proper boundary. On bohalf of Miss P.v'e, Messrs. Stafford and Treadwell reported having arranged a certain settlement in compensation. They requested that the amount (JE2S) should bo forwarded. • The cleric reported that this had been done. The borough solicitor reported that the agreement between tho council and" Messrs. Eiddiford and Hodder, for a dedication of land for road purposes, was now complete.—Seal to bo attached. Messrs. Curtis, Dickie,' and Wheeler complained of wandering cattle on To Moiai estate.—Ranger to be asked to oxplain. It was resolved not to hiro out the steam roller to the Petone Borough Council. Mr. Strand objected to the public depositing rubbish on the ground occupied by him. The engineer was deputed to wait upon Mr. Strand with a view to obtaining further information. A deputation from the Hutt Wesleyan Church waited on tho council with reference to the question of firo exits in the Wesleyan Schoolroom. The Key. Barton Ginger, who headed the deputation, stated his trustees were quite willing to alter the. two outside doors as required, but the alterations to the inside doors were, in their opinion, not necessary, and not practicable. The engineer said he had inspected the building, and was of the same opinion as Mr. Ginger.—lt was resolved that the question of alterations to the inside doors be waived. One caw of diphtheria was reported in the borough. Tho Terrace Schcol were granted the use of the Recreation Ground for their annual sports. The Library Committee recommended that in future the selections of books bo left in the hands of the committee, and that Dr. Purd.y be informed of this change, and thanked for his services; also that, with a view to popularising the library, an endeavour bo niado to have a series of lectures on subjects of public interest.—Recommondations adopted.
The engineer reported that pipes have now been laid as far us Penrose Street, on Section 2 of the eastern drainage. At Section 3. in Queen's Road, a start had been made, -and about thirteen chains had been laid lo Bunny Street. The surface drain in the Main Road had been commenced. Alterations and improvements to the septic tank were now almost complete The approach to Messrs. Gossp and Burt's lnnd had been finished. One connection had been made with the gas servire, and five with the water mains. Altogether 323 permits Hurler tho drainage and sanitary by-laws had been issued (o date. Councillor Clindon moved:—"That the resolution passed on June U, 1909, fixing tho subscriptions to the library at ss! for the half-year and 10s. for the year be rescinded, and that the subscription to the library bo 3s. for six months and ss. for twelve months, this resolution to take effect on and after October 1, 1911. The motion was carried, the Mayor and Councillors Steyonson and Keniptliorne voting against it.
