SOME REMARKS IN COURT. .. Giving evidence in tho Supreme _ Court yesterday, in tho caso of William's and others v. Miramar, Ltd., a witness who was a member of tho staff of tho Bank of New South Wales stated that money had been very tight in 1909 and rates of interest had consequently been high. _ Asked by Mr. Blair, counsel for plaintiffs, if the money market had ever been wcrso than in 190'J, witness answered that ■it had been worse in 1893 and 1894. But in 1909, tho banks throughout New Zealand had no money to lend. His Honour (Mr. Justice Edwards) remarked that there had been no depression in Auckland in 1909—he never heard of anyone having any difficulty in obtaining money. ~,,.,. . u The witness replied that , there might not have been o depression, but, nevertheless, none of tho banks had any inoncj to lend.
