Ho recognises several planks in Mr. Massoy's platform as consistent wit'h the principles of true Liberal reform. PATEA. Wanganui, September 2G. Mr. F. Train, a candidate for the Patea seat, opened his campaign at Waitolara last , evening. lie deelared himself a straight-out* supporter of the Government and in favour of the baro majority. He received a vote of thanks. CHALMERS. Dunedin, September 26. Mr. J. Dicksoni of Portobello, has decided to contest the Chalmers scat in the Opposition intores'.s. He is chairman of the Portobello Road Board, and a member of tho Otago Harbour Board. THE HON. T. MACKENZIE TO CONTEST EGMONT. Tho Hon. T. Mackenzie, Minister for Agriculture, will be a candidate for the Egmont electorate, which is now represanted by Mr. Dive, a member of tho Reform Party. Speaking to a reporter yesterday, Mr. Mackenzie said: "I am going ia for a big agricultural programme, and have therefore selected a district that I know appreciates progressive work in that direction, and that will bo sympathetic with my efforts. I feel that the time has arrived when the people of New Zealand ought to recognise tho necessity of devoting tho utmost attention, in both a practical and scientific manner, to tho agricultural and pastoral development of tho Dominion. It is my desire, if elected, with tho co-operation of the Prime Minister, who is in entire accord with my views, to widen out our operations. Wo are realising how much other countries arc specialising, and the excellent results that arc following their commendable enterprise, and that if we in Now Zealand aro to contii.ue the samo high civilisation that we are happily enabled to give to our people, and at the same time hold our pjvn in the great markets of tho world, it is essential that wo utilise in tho most efficient manner nil tho natural agencies that wo can control, to that we may be able to put our protluco on the market in such a condition as to eraablc us to hold our own with any competitor."
