CHEONOMETER-RATING NOTICE. A galvanometer signal tor ratine chronometers will bo sent from the Observatory at 1 p.m. to-day to the Museum and the Public Telegraph OSce. The needle will move at 1 p.m. exactly of New Zealand mean timo, at which hour a chronometer set to Greenwich mean timo should Ehow 13h. 30m. Any difference will bo the error of tho chronometer, fast or slow, on Greenwich mean time. True timo will be similarly signalled at each hour of tho day. , . C. E. ADAMS, Astronomical Observer.
SYDNEY BOAT. The Union Steam Ship Co. advise that the Moeraki-, which is this week's steamer from Sydney, left that port at noon on Saturday for Wellington. She is bringing 130 saloon and IC6 steerage passengers, and 609 tons of cargo. TI'SER LINE MOVEMENTS. Local agents for the Indrabarah advise that the vessel is expected to arrive hero on Saturday next. ■ She leaves for Brisbane on the following Tuesday. , P. AND 0. COMPANY'S LATEST. _The following particulars of the P. and 0. Company's new steamer, s.s, Medina, were ascertained from tho local agents of tho company, Messrs. Johnston and Co. The vessel is £60 feet lons, has a displacement of 18.7C0 tons, a grore tonnage of 12,500, and her twin-screw reciprocating engines will develop 15,000 horsc-uowcr, and ■a .speed of, 19 knots.. She, ?.nd her Eister ship the Maloja, are the largest steamera yot built for the P. and 0. Company, and will. be the largest of their class in tho Australian trade, where, owing to the limitation of the Suez Cana! r.ud other causes, tminagc rules much below tho Atlantic standard. Doth vessels will be fitted with a powcvfuH wireless installation, bedstead cabins, electric laundries, a:>d other electrical devices, while their i)asscr.!ter accommodation wi'i be of a most luxurious character. Tho Maloia will make her maiden trip in November next to Bombay.
On her way to Gisborne tho KairaW, which leaves Blackball to-day, will call at Wellington for bunkers. The Alexander is due here from Wancanui to-day, and will sail aeain at 5 p.m. for Nelson and the West Coast. Repairs to tho Komata'a rudder-post were completed j-ostorday morning. She left at 4.25 p.m. yesterday for Westport. After discharge at tliK nort, tho Kaitansata, which is due here to-day from Newcastle, via Picton. is to return to Greymouth and load timber for Sydney. Arahura, West Ooast packet, arrived at Greymouth at 11.30 yesterday morning, and loft again for Wellington, via ports, at 10 o'clock last night. Bringinc a full cargo of coal, the Waipori left for Wellington yesterday. After day. After discharging here she returns >.o Westport to load, for southern ports. The New Zealand Shipping Company notify that the Rimutaka leaves for Port Chalmers to-day.
