Expert opinion has decreed that Pictons olaims for a naval base cannot be entertained, as the following note from the Admiralty to tho Town Clerk of Ticton will show:—"With Tofcrenco to your letter of tho 10th Hay, addressed to tho 1 iTst Lord, I am commanded. by my Lordi Commissioners -of the Admiralty to inform you that careful consideration has been given to the representations contained in tho memorial of tho Picton Borough Council; <nml while it is recognised that Picton Harbour has great natural advantages, it is considered that tho absence of docks and facilities for repairing ships, and (he. lack of railway communication with tho mam system of tho South Island, render it unsuitable for adoption as a naval base." THE RIGHT PIANO. We can furnish you, on terms to suit yourself, with a piano from any one of many famous factories. We can explain to you the points and qualities of such superb, world-famous pianos as tho Broadwqod, tho Lipp, the Ronisch, and the Stoinway.—The Dresden Piano Co Ltd., Wellington. 11. J.
